Whaley's U16's put seven goals without reply past Bury to book a place in the Challenge Cup Final which will take place on Saturday 17th May against Flixton

Despite changing Leagues Whaley's girls kept up their great record by reaching the Challenge Cup Final.

Six goals from Amy Stanton and one from Elesha Arnfield saw Whaley's girls safely through to face Flixton in May.

Whaley went into this semi final full of confidence after 2 victories over Bury albeit each one being by a single goal.

Whaley played a 4-4-1-1 formation started with Abz in goal, a back 4 of Maddie, Beth, Sadie and Morgan. 4 across midfield being Elesha, Toni, Chloe and Sian with Amy playing just off Mia in attack.

Whaley’s girl started the game at a high tempo immediately pushing Bury back into their own half.  Within the first few minutes Whaley forced the Bury keeper into making a great save and this set the pattern for most of the game.

When the first goal came after just 5 minutes it was what the girls deserved. Mia laying the ball off to Amy who gave the keeper no chance {Whaley 1 Bury 0 assist Mia goal Amy}

A Second goal soon followed this time Elesha long throw from the left found Amy who created space to shoot low andhard {Whaley 2 bury 0 assist Elesha goal Amy}

Whaley continued to push and most of the game was being played within Bury half.  Whaley created several corners especially down the left but no one was able to find a finishing touch.

As half time approach Amy effectively put the game to bed with hers and Whaley’s third goal and at half time the girls began to dream of a place in the cup final.

Whilst abz in goal was a virtual spectator she kept up her concentration levels and when she need to be alert and come out to collect balls she did so with confidence.

At the risk of repeating this comment in most match reports Beth Nadin was again a rock at the back, When called upon with Maddie and Sadie were not only clearing any through balls but were immediately and quickly turning the play around and allowing Whaley’s players to counterattack.  Maddie was even venturing up field and taking some pot shots at Bury’s goal.

On the right Morgan was playing as a virtual wing back supporting and overlapping with Sian who is quickly settling into team football.

Chloe and Toni were winning the midfield battle and were enjoying being in control of mid field.  On the flanks both Elesha and Sian were also seeing a lot of the ball and giving the respective full backs a torrid time.

Moments After the break Amy added her fourth with good build up play between Elesha and Toni before another through ball to Amy with the almost inevitable result {Whaley 4 Bury 0 assist Elesha Toni goal Amy}

Amy with confidence running high scored a 5th goal as she headed home Toni’s corner (Whaley 5 Bury 0 assist Toni goal Amy}

Amy then turned provider as she let Elesha in on the act crossing the ball to Elesha for her to poked it home from close range {Whaley 6 Bury 0 assist Amy goal Elesha}

Mia was, as always this season, working hard and selflessly to and despite not getting on the score sheet she was playing some brilliant through balls into the path of Whaley players. Whaley’s 7th came via this route as she picked out Amy who with a trade mark low shot out of the keepers reach scored her 6th of the game.(Whaley 7 Bury 0 Assist Mia, Goal Amy)

This was an excellent team performance and whilst with 6 goals Amy stole the headlines this was on the back of an almost faultless effort from the whole team who should be proud of their achievements so far.
