Whaley Bridge battled back from two goals down against Eagle Sports to ensure that a win in Saturday’s season finale will secure the league title.

Goals from Laurence Reynolds and Dan Turner completed a characterful comeback for the visitors who face Garswood United at Horwich Park on Saturday.

Going into the game Whaley required four points from their final two games but struggled for the duration of the first half and failed to create any clear-cut opportunities as the visitors set about ruining their hopes of completing the double.

An Andy Dawson brace saw the visitors go into the break two goals in front and it had looked as if Whaley would fall at the penultimate hurdle in their bid to clinch the title.

Rejuvenated after the break, Whaley set about repairing the damage of a sloppy first half performance and almost pulled a goal back when Reynolds struck the post.

Whaley reduced the deficit moments later when Reynolds pounced after the hosts failed to clear their lines and slammed home the loose ball.

A flurry of Whaley corners and long throw-ins had the visitors on the back foot and they made the pressure count when Turner headed in at the far post to draw the teams level.

Whaley had the better of the remainder of the game but failed to muster a winner and will go into the final game knowing that victory will ensure title glory for Dan Turner’s side.
