WBAFC Res 0 - 6  Garswood 1st

Whaley Res needed to win this their final match against Garswood to complete a the Reserve League and Cup double.

It was a beautiful day at Horwich Park and the big crowd, including most of the senior squad, came expecting to see a tense league decider following a long hard season in which Whaley's young team, average age around 20, had exceeded all expectations to reach this point.

However Garswood, who would finish mid table irrespective of the outcome, thought to spoil the show and paraded not far short of their strongest 1st 11 to cynically influence the outcome of the Reserve Division showing a complete disregard for the integrity of the league, the spirit of the game and without any semblence of fair play.

Turner's Whaley boys did really well to hold out until half time but in the end the result, if not the score, was all too predictable and sadly met with overt jubilation by certain members of the Garswood contimgent!

Otherwise a fantastic season for the reserves but ultimately disapointing for all the wrong reasons; a very unsavoury and unsatisfactory end to the season and one that surely can't sit well with the CFL!
