Whaley Bridge Under 16s produced a spirited fightback at Great Moor County.

The home side produced some fine football in the early stages, with Whaley Bridge restricted to a couple of long range efforts. Hodges tried to shepherd a Great Moor attacker away from goal, but it resulted in a foul and a penalty. Ash Blackham got a hand to it, but Great Moor took a deserved lead that they held on to until the break. Whaley came back strongly in the second half, with Jack Howell having a shot parried away. He retrieved it and laid it to Zain Saeed whose shot was blocked. At the other end Blackham took too long on the ball, and the Whaley keeper was dispossessed giving Great Moor an easy tap in for 2-0. Whaley surged forward and won a free kick out wide. As it came into the box the referee blew for what we thought was a clear offside. Not so, as he pointed to the spot for a hold by a home defender. Saeed made no mistake, and Whaley were back in it. Howell powered through the middle, played in by a cute touch from Hamaad Chauhdry, and this time the midfielder lofted it over the keeper for the equaliser. Whaley were still not done, and as the ball broke into the Great Moor box Howell raced to collect. The keeper was second best, and he followed through on Howell leaving the ref no option but to point to the spot again. Saeed coolly slotted home, and Whaley looked likely to take all three points. A moment of drama at the other end saw Blackham pull off a fine save, and there were rapturous scenes as the final whistle blew. Whaley won 3-2, registering their third consecutive victory, and there are not many who could recall the last time that happened.
