Whaley Bridge Under 16s recovered from their defeat at Marple Athletic by defeating Inter Cheadle at 'home'.

Once again banished to the wilds of Chapel High School, Whaley Bridge started well, but neither team could break through resolute defences. It was goalless at the break, but the home side came out with renewed vigour in the second half, winning a succession of corners. Ethan Williams swung in one of these but Cheadle headed clear. The Assist Machine Ole Madden hooked it back in, and the ball fell to Alfie Hodges who took the ball left before slotting into the bottom right corner. Minutes later the Bridge won a free kick. Zain Saeed swung it in, and this time the ball hit Madden's knee and headed goalwards. Would he finally break his duck for the season. No, the ball struck the post and rebounded to Williams for a simple tap in. Earlier in the season Whaley conceded three late goals to Inter Cheadle, and when Saeed deflected a clearance into his own net the comeback was on, but Kieran Connell cut in twice from the left, finding the net on both occasions. Inter Cheadle got a late consolation, but the 4-2 victory for Whaley was well deserved, and they are now just 7 points away from securing second place.
