Signol Slump

Whaley Bridge Under 17s continued their good run of form with victory over Signol. Whaley started brightly, and it was no surprise when Ethan Williams played in Nathan Wild who fired into the top corner. Jack Howell provided the second with a through ball to Kieran Connell who made no mistake, but then the visitors started to come back into the game. They created several good chances, but Whaley held on to their 2-0 lead at the break. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Connell shrugging off a foul to rifle into the bottom corner, then he went on a powerful run to the byline, pulling the ball back for Williams who had a simple tap in. Charlie Kitchen had two chances in the space of a minute, but then a lapse in concentration from firstly Zain Saeed and then keeper Ash Blackham saw Signol gain a consolation goal. Saeed tried a speculative effort that the keeper failed to hold, and the ball drifted over the line for 5-1. That was how it ended, and though it was a fairly easy victory, Whaley will have to be on their mettle for the stiffer challenges ahead.
