At the fourth time of asking this Derbyshire Senior Cup tie was actually completed!

Whaley, having not played since the previous abandoned game a month ago and with some 'regulars' still missing, put up a spirited performance against opposition some 4 or 5 leagues above the CFL and who had played 3 or 4 games during that period.

With 4 at the back and 5 across the middle and one up front containment was the name of the game with Whaley allowing Alfreton pretty much free reign of their third of the pitch, playing tight across the middle and breaking away when the opportunity arose through the tireles Scorer.

Goalmouth action didn't feature in the first half hour, both keepers dealing comfortably with the odd long range effort, until on 30 mins Alfreton No. 8 Jamie Jackson met a deep cross at the far post to head the home team into a 1-0 lead at half time although there was a suspicion that Tattersall had been impeded.

Whaley did on accasion play some neat passing football on a great surface through Sutton and co in midfield.  At the back Rob Newton was in control as usual and this time backed up by the impressive young Liam Prophet making his first appearence at centre back.

Alfreton's 2nd on 55 mins came from a low cross-shot into the goalmouth that was missed by everyone including the hapless Tattersall who was surely expecting that someone, on either side, must get a touch before it hit the inside netting at the far post.

Whaley responded on 64 mins through substitute Will Bailey who met a Sutton free kick some 10 yards out to scissor kick the ball through a pcked area to make it  2-1.

Sam Jones completed the scoring on 77 mins hitting a shot from 18 yards that was deflected past Tattersall to make it 3-1.

With Whaley tiring the pressure culminated in a 78th minute penalty saved brilliantly by Tattersall dropping down to push the ball wide to his right to cap yet a another great performance by the Whaley keeper.

All in all a creditable performance from a spirited Whaley team against all the odds.
