Stockport Setback

Whaley Bridge Under 18s suffered their second defeat of the season at home to Stockport YDS. The visitors started strongly, and it was only a matter of time until they scored. The inevitable happened as their centre forward was given too much time in the box, but that sparked Whaley into life. Kieran Connell won the ball on the right and the play was switched to Ethan Williams on the left. He played in Jack Howell who levelled the score. There were chances at both ends, and Whaley came closest as Howell's shot struck the post. Stockport dominated the second half, taking the lead as Whaley's back four were stretched. Another mix up between keeper Ash Blackham and his centre backs gifted Stockport a third, and when the fourth was tapped home it seemed that the game was over. However, Whaley had other ideas. Elliot Brownsword found himself free in the box and bagged thesecond. Shortly afterwards he struck the bar, and as the clock ticked towards injury time Howell glanced home a header to make it 4-3. Unfortunately the referee's whistle came before Whaley could mount another attack, and although it was a defeat, it could have easily gone the home side's way were it not for the woodwork.
