Cheshire Football League Memorial Cup

A big crowd saw 2016/17 Premier League and Cup winners Whaley Bridge take on local rivals, 2nd place, Poynton in the CFL's traditional opening game of the season.

The first quarter was a close affair but the deadlock was eventually broken when the persistent Kelly bundled the ball over the line to make it 1-0 at half time.  After the break a typical early goal from Joe Burgess took the edge off the game with Scorer; Wigg and Will Bailey completing a comprehensive workout prior to the first league game of the season scheduled next Tuesday evening.

Both squads weren't that far off their full compliment with Whaley's Tom Scorer, 2nd top scorer last term, already nudging ahead of the CFL's top scorer last season, Rick Tindall.

Martin Longden's Development Squad provided a couple of additions to the squad with an impressive debut from young left back Alfie Hodges.

WBAFC v Denton KO 6:45 at Horwich Park, tomorrow Tuesday 8th

Tattersall; Sutton(Mason 75); Newton; Streets; Hodges; Morris(Burgess 10); Bailey; Leadbetter; Scorer(Wigg 75); Kelly
