Just like watching Brazil in the driving rain !

3 enforced changes this week didn’t affect the Whaley machine as it cruised through this game with a very dominant display against a stubborn Rudheath side who sat in deep from the off with one man upfront and relying on the opportunist break.

Having said that, and with Whaley playing some flowing stuff on the ground, Rudheath really should have taken the lead when their new signing Pricup dispossessed a rusty Roberto Newton to round Tattersall to only see his shot inexplicably rebound off the far post for Streets to mop up in his usual calm way.

Even with 75% of the play it took the home side some 25 minutes to break the deadlock; good work by Kay to Leadbetter down the left produced a cross that Rudheath's defence couldn’t deal with and ultimately George Burgess was on hand to swivel and poke the ball in at the far post to take make it 1-0.

The next goal was of the master class variety. The move of the day was actually a replica of a couple of previous moves that weren’t ultimately converted. Involving just about everyone and culminating in some astute play between left footers Leadbetter and Broome it was converted by Jack Kelly with a silky one touch finish from a low cross flashing across the 6 yard box.

The third soon followed when a Sutton cross from the right was struck hard and low back across goal from the left into the far corner by Sam Leadbetter.

The second half although dominated by the home side, who this week dropped down a gear in the driving horizontal rain, didn’t produce any further goals. Will Bailey returning from suspension replaced the injured Sutton and under 17s & development player Dan Connell was introduced and did well in the last 15 minutes.

Lots of good stuff this week and with confidence high everyone seemingly having time on the ball to make the right decisions and keep the ball. Much of the football emanating from and across the back through Gregory, Newton, Streets and man of the match Jamie Kay.

Assistant, assistant manager’s urgent request, in light of the appalling weather conditions experienced this week, for winter over-clothing is being assessed sympathetically by the committee as we speak!
