Dwyer gets second half hatrick as Whaley move up to 5th.

It was obvious, after a great Whaley win on Thursday night in the JB Parker Cup, that there were some weary legs and sore heads but albeit after a slow first ten minutes Whaley played some good football influenced in particular by veteran Scott Dignan at centre half.

It was a very similar game to the league encounter in which Whaley created an abundance of chances; Dwyer and Leadbetter both having several efforts either saved on the line or foiled by the woodwork. Finally Leadbetter made the breakthrough as he shot hard and low past Willis followed soon after by a close range volley from midfield dynamo Gilbride 0-2. Whaley had plenty of possession but failed to further kill the game off by half time.

Soon after the kick off Dwyer finally beat Willis after cruising past three defenders to slot the ball home 0-3. Darius Ofui instigated a lot of Egerton’s play and Knight also started to get a grip of the game showing some good individual skill to get Egerton back in the game with two superb strikes. Whaley upped their game and didn’t let complacency spoil the day as Dwyer went at goal beating defender after defender and striking twice hard and low past the advancing keeper Willis to complete the scoring.
