Mike Prophet has called it a day after 20 odd years in a Whaley shirt. Part of the squad assembled by Steve Rampley in the mid to late 80s, that held things together when the Club came close to folding, he has been a Whaley stalwart ever since. |
Prof along with others playing in those early days, the likes of Chris and Westy and a tad later Brog, has stuck with us through thick and thin both on and off the field; 'young' Nes Longden is now the only one still playing 'competative' football from that era.
Sheffield born Prof has decided to give youth a chance by stepping down whilst the Club is flush with youngsters... but has declared that he will be available as and when required for the rest of this season!
Always a great Club man, reliable, organised and committed, Prof is a great example to the yougsters and will be certainly missed in the changing room but is still heavily involved on the Committee as Club Treasurer; he will also have more time to concentrate his efforts running the Under 10s - both sons Liam & Zack play for Whaley Juniors.
He is also hoping to be accepted into the soon to be formed 'Whaley Chapter, or should that be paragraph, of over 40 hairy bikers. |
