Whaley through to semi-final - at last !
|
After several postponements due to bad weather, Whaley finally booked their place in the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Junior Cup, to be played next week, with this emphatic win.
The first Whaley goal followed a poor Glossop goal kick that Bill Sutton headed through for Rob Newton, his first touch took him past the defence and he finished clinically. A second soon followed when a Bill Sutton corner was headed in by a Glossop defender.

Whaley's domination of the first half was emphasised when Ray Dwolitka beat the Glossop keeper with a curling left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area.
In the second half, the crowd expected a strong reply from Glossop but Whaley's back four were hardly troubled. Ray Dwolitka beat the offside trap and slid the ball past the Glossop keeper to put the game beyond Glossop's reach. Another superbly taken goal from Rob Newton was followed by a run into the box by Joe Williamson whose fierce cross was turned in by a Glossop defender.

Ray Dwolitka completed his hat-trick with a superb goal as he jinked along the by-line and beat the keeper at the near post.
A 5 week lay-off had not reduced Whaley's momentum and their success in this competition continued with the demolition of Glossop who were outplayed in every part of the park. It's hard to pick out one man from a brilliant team performance but, for his hat-trick, Ray Dwolitka was “man of the match”.
