Tightly fought derby

A much anticipated game lived up to its expectation. Whaley started the game at a fast tempo with some slick passing and a good early save from last year’s Whaley keeper, Stuart Rodgers, keeping the scores level. It took 20 minutes for Furness to get into the game, with a couple of long range shots comfortably dealt with by Whitehead in the Whaley goal. A long ball into the box took an unfortunate deflection into the back of Whaley’s net off Longden. 1-0 Furness. Half time.

The second half continued to be a tight affair with neither keeper being fully tested. A mazy run by Hughes on the left resulted in Whaley being awarded a penalty. After a short delay Drayson stood up to take the penalty and struck it hard and low past Rodgers. 1-1.

Both teams were pushing for the win in the final minutes with L.Reynolds and M.Egerton coming close. Final score 1-1

Team: Whitehead, Langford, Longden(C), Ferdani, Fellows, Lomas, J.Shuker, Jones, Drayson, Hughes, L.Reynolds
Subs: Robinson, Jackson, P.Reynolds
Scorer: Drayson (1)
